Never played Teen Patti before? This page walks you through everything from scratch – what the game is, how a round works, what the cards mean, and what to do on your first few games. No jargon, no assumptions.

What Is Teen Patti?

Teen Patti means “three cards” in Hindi. It is a card game where 3 to 6 players each receive three cards face-down, then bet on who has the best hand. It has been played in India for generations – at family gatherings, during Diwali, at festivals. The mobile app version brings the same game online so you can play against other people on your phone.

What You Need

  • A standard 52-card deck (the app handles this for you)
  • 3 to 6 players (the app matches you with other players)
  • Chips to bet with (you receive starting chips when you register)

How One Round Works

This is how a round of Teen Patti goes from start to finish:

  1. Everyone puts chips in the pot. This starting bet is called the boot. It is the same amount for every player.
  2. Three cards are dealt face-down to each player. Nobody can see anyone else’s cards.
  3. You decide: blind or seen. Blind means you bet without looking at your cards (costs less per round). Seen means you look at your cards first (costs more per round but you know what you have).
  4. Betting goes around the table. On your turn, you either call (match the current bet), raise (increase it), or fold (quit the round and lose what you already put in).
  5. The round ends when everyone except one player has folded, OR when two players call a show (flip their cards and compare).
  6. The best hand wins the pot.

The Six Hands – Strongest to Weakest

Your three cards form one of six possible hand types:

  1. Trail – three of the same rank (like 8-8-8). The strongest hand.
  2. Pure Sequence – three consecutive cards of the same suit (like 5♥ 6♥ 7♥).
  3. Sequence – three consecutive cards, different suits (like 5♠ 6♥ 7♦).
  4. Colour – three cards of the same suit, not consecutive (like 2♣ 7♣ K♣).
  5. Pair – two cards of the same rank (like J-J-4).
  6. High Card – nothing matches. Ranked by the highest card value.

Most of the time you will have a High Card – that is normal. Three out of every four hands dealt are High Card. A Pair or better puts you ahead of most players at the table.

Blind vs Seen – Which Should You Choose?

Blind: You bet without looking. Costs half the current bet. Advantage: you spend less and opponents cannot read your behaviour because you genuinely do not know your cards.

Seen: You look at your cards, then bet. Costs the full amount. Advantage: you know exactly what you hold and can make informed decisions about staying or folding.

For your first few games, try going blind for the first round or two, then switching to seen. This gives you a feel for how the betting works while keeping costs low early on.

Your First Game – What to Expect

  1. Open the app and enter the lobby.
  2. Pick “Classic Teen Patti” – this is the standard version with no special rules.
  3. Choose the lowest-stake table available. Do not start at high stakes.
  4. Play 5-10 rounds just to understand the flow. Do not worry about winning yet.
  5. Try folding early on weak hands. Notice how it saves your chips for later rounds.
  6. After 10 rounds, you will already have a feel for the betting rhythm and when others fold or raise.

Five Mistakes Beginners Make

  • Never folding. Staying in every round with weak cards drains your chips. Folding is not losing – it is saving chips for a better hand.
  • Playing too many rounds seen. Going seen on every round is expensive. Mix in blind rounds to lower your average cost.
  • Ignoring what others do. Watch how opponents bet. Someone who raises fast after going seen likely has a strong hand.
  • Starting at high-stake tables. Learn at low stakes where mistakes cost less.
  • Playing too long. Set a time limit. Tired players make worse decisions.
